Technical insight

Water color was chosen as medium to match with the fluid nature of a six month old baby. I wanted this painting to be light on the eyes, bright enough to light up any place while highlighting the purity and innocence of the smile.

I started with a pencil sketch referring to a picture. First step in coloring was the wet on wet approach which gave me a dynamic, inaccurate underlayer. Subsequent wet on dry layers were to match the tones without loosing the fluidity of the medium. 

Background is a complimentary natural effect.
